Darchen Goenpa, also known as Darchen-pang Goenpa is located in Minjey, Lhuentse near the ancient trail, formerly used by kings, ministers and officials travelling between Tashi Yantse and Lhuentse. This location is of a particular importance since Lama Gyeltshen Marpo, one of the closest disciples of Togdhen Shakya Shri and predecessor of H.E Gyeltshen Trulku Rinpoche had established a modest retreat house at this exact place in 1918 and meditated there for several months.
In 1978, at the request of the nearby community, Rinpoche, then aged twenty-five, built a temple where the retreat house of his predecessor once stood as well as another retreat house to enable up to four monks to undergo intensive meditation retreats.
To date, while the retreat houses are regularly hosting meditation practitioners, the building requires renovations to provide the monks with the minimum amenities. In addition, Rinpoche has the vision of expanding the retreat centre to enable further practitioners to benefit from the auspicious and sacred location where Rinpoche himself and his predecessor once meditated.
